Air Travel

Mittenwald is conveniently placed for travel from the region's international airports.

Airport gif Innsbruck Airport

Innsbruck Airport is the closest to Mittenwald. Innsbruck has long been known as a popular destination for ski charter flights - especially from the northern European countries - but now the introduction of new lower-fare scheduled flights from major destinations like London has made it into a real option for those flying from further afield.

Innsbruck Airport

The journey from the airport runs over the Seefeld plateau and reaches Mittenwald just after the border crossing. In normal conditions the journey time should be no more than 30-40 minutes.

Airport gifMunich Airport

Most visitors who are using scheduled flights will still probably arrive at Munich Airport, as it is the major international gateway for this part of Europe.

Munich Airport

The expanding airport is located a good 30 minutes to the north-east of the city and drivers have an option of staying on the motorway and travelling via Kufstein and Innsbruck, or heading into the city and around the ringroads to the Garmisch motorway. Either motorway can be very busy on a peak season Saturday.

Salzburg Airport, with a mix of ski charters and cheap scheduled flights, is also an option, although less convenient than the other two airports.

Salzburg Airport

Motorists unfamiliar with the area should choose the motorway route via Kufstein rather than the more direct cross-country journey via Lofer and St Johann.

Rail Travel

Train gifMittenwald Railway Station

Mittenwald railway station is located on the edge of the town and is on one of the main lines between Munich and Innsbruck.

Trains run every hour from Munich Airport and the journey takes approximately two-and-half hours, with a change at Munich-Pasing.

Trains from Innsbruck's main railway station leave every two hours and the direct journey lasts one hour. The Innsbruck Airport bus into the city stops at the main railway station. The last train from Innsbruck leaves in the mid-evening before some evening flights are scheduled to arrive.
