Oberstdorf Comments from Ski Germany Visitors

I have visited the area 5 times now (and even brought 12 friends on my stag do! All had a memorable week's skiing only spoiled by to much snow!), this being the first year that i haven't visited due the arrival of our first child! (Can't wait for next years trip)
I have skiied at virtually all the local areas: Nebehlhorn, Felhorn, Kansselwand as well as the smaller sollereckbahn grassgeren etc etc to many to name.
All are good fun with runs for all abilities. Having such a wide variety of pistes/runs/ resorts, a week is not really enough to ski all the local areas or there pistes.Skiing in Germany i have found to be fantastic value, accomodation is good clean + relatively cheap
The town of Oberstdorf is small and friendly with good food and of course great apres-ski ales, although not that many bars! and at a price that will not break the bank.
I have to admit that we have not used the ski buses, so am unable to comment on the travel situation but driving is all good to all the ski areas, but in the town itself a car is just not needed.
My wife learnt to ski in the surrounding resorts although her particular instructor lacked in his apparent fluent english, but freinds learning since have had brilliant instructors who thankfully could pass on there amazing knowledge in english!
Loved every minute of every trip, and just can't wait for 2009 adventure to oberstdorf and surrounding area.

Oberstdorf Comments from Usenet

"Oberstdorf, a lovely alpine village (highest in Germany) that is better known for its ski jumping. It has three ski areas, none terribly big or difficult but nice all the same and not a lot of queues, only problem will be trying to find somewhere in the village as it's v. popular esp. around Xmas/New Year."

"it's not for you if you like lots of hard piste or gnarly off piste. However, for a few pleasant days in a lovely village it's hard to beat."
Dean Dunn, rec.skiing.resorts.europe

"There are buses from Oberstdorf directly to the Fellhorn. They have good slopes for beginners, a reasonably priced rental shop on the hill and very modern lifts (not only t-bars)."
