Oberstdorf is appreciably closer to the small Friedrichshafen Airport on Lake Constance, but the choice of flights into Innsbruck and Munich airports will still attract air travellers.
Friedrichshafen Airport, as one of the "new" destinations for winter charters and low-cost flights, has transformed itself into a popular option for visitors wanting to head for the resorts of Oberstdorf and western Austria. Oberstdorf is reached in an hour-and-a-half from Friedrichshafen, first along the main road on the northern shore of Lake Constance and then through to Immenstadt before turning south to the resort..

Innsbruck Airport is an alternative option for travellers looking for a good selection of flights and a moderately short journey of two-and-a-half hours. The route is somewhat complicated and weather-dependent, however.

Drivers should head east towards the town of Imst and then over the Fernpass to Reutte. Here drivers can take the small mountain road via Nesselwängle to Sonthofen in good conditions, or alternatively either of the more reliable routes heading past Pfronten into Germany.
Most visitors who are using scheduled flights will still probably arrive at Munich Airport, as it is the major international gateway for this part of Europe.

The expanding airport is located a good 30 minutes to the north-east of the city and drivers should stay on the motorway until signs are reached for Lindau. The easiest route takes the A96 motorway and then follows signs for Kempten and south to Oberstdorf. The journey should take around two-and-a-half hours but the motorway can be very busy on a peak season Saturday.
Oberstdorf railway station is located conveniently near the centre of the town and with easy access to the ski buses for the different ski areas nearby.
The train journey from Munich Airport can be complicated with three or four changes and an equivalent number of hours. Take the S-Bahn from the airport to Munich Pasing - from there trains leave for Memmingen or Kempten and then down to Immenstadt and Oberstdorf.
The train journey from Friedrichshafen is shorter at two-and-a-half hours and heads via Lindau (change) to Immenstadt (change) and Oberstdorf.
